These illustrations above are used for the tarot cards. The concept of the tarot cards is Chinese tarot card theme. The card was made with Adobe Photoshop CS6 and a wacom tablet.
Chosen theme: Chinese Theme
Dynasty Era
It was rare for one dynasty to change peacefully into the next (as is said in ancient stories), since dynasties were often established before the overthrow of an existing regime, or continued for a time after they had been defeated. For example, the conventional date 1644 marks the year in which the Qing Dynasty armies completely subjugated loyalists of the preceding Ming Dynasty. However, the Qing dynasty itself was established in 1636 (or even 1616, albeit under a different name), while the last Ming dynasty pretender was not deposed until 1662. This change of ruling houses was a messy and prolonged affair, and the Qing took almost twenty years to extend their control over the whole of China. It is therefore inaccurate to assume China changed suddenly and all at once in the year 1644.
I chose this theme because I think it’s quite interesting to create a tarot from the chinese culture because not many people choose to do chinese tarot because it’s rare. I think that this concept is unique. Behind all the pictures used in the cards, each character have each meaning. For example, Justice, I use Bao because he’s the one who decides justice in china. As for the hanging man, I choose the chinese hopping ghost to show that the person in that context already died. As for the emperor and the emperess I made the illustration of the emperor and the emperess from china itself. As for the tower, I use pagoda because it’s china’s trademark.
